Atlanta, Georgia Community Redevelopment - A National Model for Community Redevelopment - East Lake has been recognized by the Urban Land Institute as a national model for community redevelopment. The new East Lake includes: The Villages of East Lake, a mixed-income apartment community with half market-rate and half government-subsidized apartment homes and on-site resident programs managed by Mercy Housing; Charles R. Drew Charter School, the city of Atlanta’s first public charter school, which is managed by Edison Schools, Inc., now serving grades K-8 and offering a comprehensive curriculum and before and after school programs emphasizing high achievement and character development; the East Lake Family YMCA located adjacent to the school; the Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center for children from birth to kindergarten; and the Charlie Yates Golf Course, a public, mid-length, 18-hole golf course, that is the home of The First Tee?of East Lake, a year-round golf and mentoring program for area youth. Net proceeds from the Charlie Yates Golf Course, the East Lake Golf Club and the PGA Tour’s season-ending TOUR Championship held at East Lake Golf Club every year benefit East Lake community programs. TOUR Championship tickets are available online. As beautiful as the buildings are, it’s what happening inside them that is making all the difference. With adult residents taking advantage of career development, job and life skills training and financial literacy classes and East Lake youth being offered strong educational support from pre-school to high school, the East Lake community is thriving.

Our Cause
Founded in 1995 on the belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, the East Lake Foundation offers Atlanta’s East Lake residents the opportunities to build a better future. The Foundation has transformed one of the nation’s worst public housing projects into an award-winning, national model for a thriving, mixed-income community. The success of this initiative is rooted not only in rebuilding the physical infrastructure of the community, but in rebuilding lives. By creating and funding educational, recreational and self-sufficiency programs for community residents, the Foundation helps East Lake families break the cycle of poverty and nurtures a healthy community for generations to come.
Your Legacy
East Lake’s success has and always will be based on collaboration – with community residents, with public and private partners, and with donors like you. As you plan for the future, the East Lake Foundation invites you to join our Planned Giving Society. The Planned Giving Society recognizes and honors individuals and their families who include the East Lake Foundation in their estate plans. A planned gift ensures a strong and healthy future for the residents of East Lake, while providing potential estate tax benefits to you and your family. Joining the Planned Giving Society not only ensures your family’s legacy, but this enduring act of generosity will also give East Lake families something to pass on to their next generation – better choices and the belief in their ability to build a better life.
Your Gift
The East Lake Foundation accepts a wide variety of planned gifts that allow you to make a lasting impact upon East Lake, while potentially providing you and your family with income and tax benefits. A planned gift to the Foundation’s Planned Giving Society may include:
- A bequest of cash, stock or real estate.
- A gift of life insurance or retirement plan.
- A Charitable Lead Trust – provides the Foundation income for a number of years before the committed assets are delivered to your heirs.
East Lake Foundation does not provide legal or tax advice. We encourage you to consult with your lawyer and tax advisor when considering any gift to the Foundation.
