After Katrina: From Ruin to Renewal

It started with an email on Nov. 10, 2005, at 10:23 a.m. New Orleans time. The sender was Charlie Yates, then an executive with Zurich Insurance, the title sponsor of the PGA Tour’s event in the Big Easy. He was also the man behind the revitalization of one of the worst neighborhoods in America, the crime-ridden and crumbling East Lake section of Atlanta.

Inaugural Event Raises $480,000 for Early Childhood Education

The East Lake Foundation’s inaugural Party on the Green, held on April 29, 2017 at East Lake Golf Club, raised more than $470,000 to support the early childhood education initiative in the East Lake community. The event, presented by the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, honored the legacy of Tom and Ann Cousins for their vision and commitment to breaking cycle of poverty in Atlanta’s East Lake community and across the country through Purpose Built Communities now working in 15 additional cities.

Elementary Academy Certified as Official STEAM School by the Georgia Department of Education

Drew Charter School Elementary Academy has been certified as an official Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) School by the Georgia Department of Education. Drew is the first school in the city of Atlanta to receive this designation, which was created to recognize institutions committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities in STEAM.
