Joined with the Foundation, community residents and private investors to create The Villages of East Lake, a new mixed-income community in East Lake.
Along with parents and the Foundation, the Atlanta Board of Education opened Drew Charter School in 2000, the city of Atlanta’s first charter school.
Charles R. Drew Charter School, the city of Atlanta’s first public charter school, offers a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum and numerous enrichment programs that emphasize academic achievement and character development for more than 1,700 students, Pre-K through 12th grade.
Located adjacent to Drew Charter School and across the street from The Villages of East Lake, the East Lake Family YMCA offers recreational and community programs, including youth and teen outreach and leadership, youth sports, aquatics, day camp, and health and wellness programs. It is also home to the East Lake Early Learning Academy, one of our Early Childhood Education partners.
This home course of legendary golfer Bobby Jones and permanent home to the PGA TOUR’s season-ending TOUR Championship. East Lake Golf Club is not only a historic golf club, but a philanthropic one as well. The Foundation benefits from several golf related events hosted at the Club, the TOUR Championship, East Lake Invitational and East Lake Cup, and a portion of the Club's operational proceeds are donated to the East Lake Foundation to help revitalize the surrounding neighborhood.
Opened a grocery store in East Lake in 2001, which was the first grocery store in this community in 40 years.
Located adjacent to The Villages of East Lake, Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center offers an infant, toddler and Pre-K curriculum for children in the East Lake and Kirkwood neighborhoods. It also serves as one of the Early Childhood Education partners in the East Lake neighborhood.
In partnership with Social Enterprise @ Goizueta, Start:ME East Lake supports micro-entrepreneurs in the East Lake and neighboring Kirkwood communities of Atlanta. The East Lake program runs from January through April each year. $30,000 in low-cost loans will be distributed among the top business ventures. Program is free to accepted participants; however, strict attendance and peer-participation standards must be met.
East Lake Golf Club has been the permanent home of the TOUR Championship since 2005. The TOUR Championship event has raised millions for the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee® of East Lake. The East Lake Foundation is grateful for the thousands of golf fans, PGA TOUR players, the PGA TOUR, Coca-Cola Company, Southern Company, and the thousands of volunteers who make the tournament possible each year.
