East Lake Foundation Announces Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run on August 5, 2023

The East Lake Foundation is thrilled to announce its upcoming Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run event, set to take place on August 5, 2023. This event promises to be a fun-filled day of fitness and community spirit, bringing together residents, students and visitors of all ages and fitness levels.

The Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run will provide participants with an opportunity to enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere and a scenic route through the beautiful East Lake neighborhood offering a unique opportunity to run on the back nine holes of historic East Lake Golf Club. Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking to set a new personal record or someone who simply enjoys a leisurely stroll, this event is designed to cater to all levels of fitness and ability.

Participants can choose between the 5K race and the Fun Run (400-meter race), ensuring there’s something for everyone. The 5K race will begin promptly at 8:00 AM, while the Fun Run will follow at 9:00 AM. Both events will start and finish at Charles R. Drew Charter School’s Junior & Senior Academy (300 Eva Davis Way, Atlanta, GA 30317), and water stations will be available along the routes to keep participants hydrated and energized.

In addition to promoting physical activity, the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run aims to strengthen the sense of community and support a charitable cause. The proceeds from the event will support the East Lake Foundation, a placed-based community development organization established in 1995 that collaborates with the Villages of East Lake residents, Drew Charter School families and other key service partners to ensure every member of the East Lake community has equitable access to the resources, tools, and supports needed to thrive.

“We are thrilled to host the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run,” said Ilham Askia, President and CEO for the East Lake Foundation. “This event will bring together our community and showcase the beautiful East Lake neighborhood that we are fortunate to call home. We invite everyone to join us for a day of fun, fitness, and giving back to the community.”

Registration for the East Lake 5K and Fun Run is now open and can be completed online at https://bit.ly/RunforEastLake. Early bird registration offers a discounted rate for participants who sign up by June 15, 2023. All registered participants will receive an event t-shirt, and there will be awards for winners in each age group.

About East Lake Foundation

Founded in 1995,  by developer and philanthropist, Tom Cousins, the East Lake Foundation collaborates with public and private organizations to provide tools and equitable opportunities that enable Atlanta’s East Lake residents to thrive  using an integrated model for holistic community development.

The East Lake model includes cradle-to-college education at Drew Charter School and its early learning partners (Atlanta Speech School, the East Lake Family YMCA, and Sheltering Arms East Lake); mixed-income housing at The Villages of East Lake; and community wellness through its Resident and Community Support Program and partners’ programs including the First Tee—Metro Atlanta,  Charlie Yates Golf Course, Start:ME East Lake, a micro-entrepreneurship program with Emory University, and the East Lake YMCA’s East Lake Healthy Connections. This approach to building a strong, healthy, and vibrant community creates a place where people of all ages and income levels choose to live.

The redevelopment of East Lake has become a national model for integrated and holistic community redevelopment in 27 additional neighborhoods across the country through Purpose Built Communities. For more information, please visit www.eastlakefoundation.org.
