East Lake Initiative COVID-19 Updates

East Lake Foundation: Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Georgia, and specifically city of Atlanta, the East Lake Foundation office reclosed its office on Tuesday, July 7th. We will reassess the situation on Thursday, July 23rd.

Drew Charter School: Atlanta Public Schools (APS) announced that the district will begin the 2020–2021 school year in a virtual learning model.  The superintendent recommended a virtual model from the first day of school through at least October 23rd and based this recommendation on current public health data showing substantial spread of COVD-19 in Atlanta.

APS, as Drew’s charter authorizer, has advised the school to align our reopening model with the district in order to ensure the safety of students and staff.  Based on this guidance and consideration of public health data, Drew will reopen virtually on August 3rdThe school will continue to collaborate with the district to review public health data/guidelines on an ongoing basis to determine if they will continue under a virtual model or shift to a hybrid or a face-to-face model later in the school year.

The Villages of East Lake: Management is restricting residents’ use of all amenity and common areas, including laundry rooms, playgrounds, the pavilion, community room and tennis courts. The Leasing Center will be available only for urgent matters. The maintenance staff will not enter occupied units unless it is an emergency until further notice.

Sheltering Arms East Lake: Sheltering Arms Centers will resume in-person care on Monday, August 17th.  Children to return in phases to the centers. Initially, the organization will allow up to eight children in the classroom. More families will be added in two-week increments, as safety conditions are continuously monitored.

East Lake Family YMCA: The East Lake Family YMCA will reopen their facility with a phased approach beginning on May 15th.  The East Lake Family YMCA continues to provide high-quality childcare services for first responders, hospital employees, police department staff and other frontline workers. More information can be found here. The  East Lake YMCA Teen Center will open on August 24th as one of several  Y Campus Connection locations. Y Campus Connections will serve students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. They  will be supported in completing their remote learning while also staying active and enjoying fun activities throughout the day, and after their virtual school day is complete.The East Lake Early Learning Academy will reopen in person on Tuesday, September 8th.

East Lake Golf Club and Charlie Yates Golf Course: East Lake Golf Club is open with limited access for members for walking golf only.  Charlie Yates Golf Course and is now open with limited access. All tee times for Charlie Yates Golf Course are required to be made online via GolfNow.  The driving ranges, practice facilities, and clubhouses at both facilities have reopen with limited access.

The First Tee of Metro Atlanta: Under COVID-19 safety protocols, limited, in-person youth programming resumed July 11th.  Session I classes for masked, socially distanced, Par Level and above participants will occur through August 8th at John A. White Golf Course, Charlie Yates Golf Course and Mystery Valley Golf Course.  Classes at other metro program locations are targeted to resume no later than Session III (October 10th). PLAYer level participants (primarily below age 9) will receive virtual coaching with some limited in-person opportunities.

Start:ME East Lake: The 2020 cohort has concluded its 14-session program. Start:ME celebrated the 49 ventures completing this year’s program with its Entrepreneur Showcase on May 5.  They have set up a resource page to post small business support info (grants, loans, advice, tools, etc.).
